The inspiration for this island is a unique way to experience a portfolio. The name is taken from my freelance identity called Doe Eye Designs. The future for this project is to make it into a playable portfolio. The goal will be exploration with collectibles that show pieces of my portfolio. Creatures will be added to lead the player through regions and also to cause mayhem. I have a very broad range of art pieces within different art medias that I would like to show off. So each region represents a different media in my portfolio. The medias include 2D illustration, interactive media, 3D modeling, videography, photography, graphic design, fine art, animation, and concentration.

 

  • 2D illustration is a forest region that is entirely low-poly. This was the best way to incorporate a 2D aesthetic in a 3D space.
  • Interactive media is a desert region. This is the place of dreams or are they mirages caused by dehydration?
  • 3D modeling is a place covered by lava rock and crystal created by earth's 3D printer, the volcano.
  • Videography is the region of active volcanoes right next to a flowing river. So much movement gives this region its flair.
  • Photography is the region that never sees sunlight. The constant storms leave this land in total darkness. The only light it will ever see is the flash from the lightning above. The lightning reveals the beautiful characteristics of this land. The ground is made of pixelated stone and mountains with a hidden cave. The red glow inside the cave is representative to a photographer's darkroom.
  • Graphic design is the lower region of the swamp lands filled with colorful water and unique trees. The trees seem to have crumbled up paper as their leaves, and they appear to bleed into the swamplands. This is inspired by the print work of a graphic artist, the printing on paper with that very important page bleed.
  • Fine art is the largest gulf of this island. The water is thick and colorful almost like paint.
  • Animation is up in the clouds as a floating island (not included in game). This is a very beautiful place that very few get to see. This region has a beautiful, flowing waterfall that flows into the fine art gulf. The movement from the water and clouds are inspired by the movement of animation.
  • Lastly, concentration is a lonely island in one of the gulfs.

 

This island is inspired by the big projects an artist must deal with during their journey, like a BFA senior art show. These tests show the ability of an artist to create their best concentration of work within a very short amount of time. This concentration region is cold and lonely, covered in ice and snow and cut off from the rest of the island. It makes people feel as if they cannot go on or not finish what they started.
